Passing it forward
Figure skating has given David far more than medals. It has taught him discipline, resilience, patience, creativity — and the importance of believing in the process. Today, he is beginning to pass those lessons forward.

Coach. Mentor. Developing choreographer.
Both sides of the boards
As a young coach who still competes at a high level, David understands both sides of the athlete-coach relationship. He remembers what it feels like to be a nervous beginner, an ambitious young competitor, and an athlete working through technical and emotional challenges.

Coaching philosophy
Four principles
Strong foundations
Balance, edges, posture, coordination, flexibility and body awareness before rushing into difficult elements.
Confidence through progress
Skills broken into manageable steps — and helping athletes recognize their small improvements.
Individual expression
Encouraging skaters to develop their own movement quality and performance personality, not to copy someone else.
Love of the sport
An environment where young athletes work hard but still remember why they wanted to skate in the first place.
Mentorship
A role model who travelled the same path
David understands how meaningful it can be for a young skater — especially a young boy — to see an older athlete who has travelled the same path. Through coaching and mentorship, he helps younger skaters navigate competition nerves, training pressure, setbacks and the long process of developing difficult skills.
“Every fall means you are trying. The more you are willing to try, the more you learn.”

Movement that feels authentic
Musical interpretation has always been one of David’s defining strengths. As a developing choreographer, he is interested in helping skaters find movement that feels authentic to them — not simply placing steps between technical elements. His work focuses on musicality, character, transitions, body line and expression.
